इस दिन भगवान कृष्ण ने देव राज इन्द्र के घमंड को चूर-चूर कर गोवर्द्धन पर्वत की पूजा की थी दीपावली श्री लक्ष्मी पूजा के अगले दिन गोवर्द्धन पूजा की जाती है. इस दिन भगवान कृष्ण गोवर्द्धन पर्वत और गायों की पूजा का विधान है. यही नहीं इस दिन 56 या 108 तरह के पकवान बनाकर श्रीकृष्ण को उनका भोग लगाया जाता है. इन पकवानों को अन्नकूट कहा जाता है. मान्यता है कि इसी दिन भगवान कृष्ण ने देव राज इन्द्र के घमंड को चूर-चूर कर गोवर्द्धन पर्वत की पूजा की थी.
